Cardano and Ethereum are frequently compared because their blockchains provide similar features, such as smart contracts for building decentralized applications. Ethereum (ETH) is an open-source blockchain platform with its own currency. Cardano is a decentralized third-generation proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain platform that aims to be a more efficient alternative to proof-of-work (PoW) networks
Participants on the Cardano and
Ethereum blockchains would be able to stake their native currencies on the
network. Ouroboros, a component of Cardano's PoS system, allows users to
validate transactions and earn ADA. Because the protocol divides time into epochs
and slots, a leader is chosen within each slot to select which blocks are added
to the blockchain.
Ethereum 2.0's consensus the mechanism will be PoS, requiring operating nodes to stake at least 32 ETH in a
contract in order to earn rewards for validating transactions and producing new
blocks on the network.
Prior to the transition to ETH
2.0, the Ethereum blockchain will continue to rely on PoW, also known as
mining. Ethereum miners use computational power to process transactions and
generate new blocks.
Miners must compete to find a new
block to add to the blockchain while verifying transactions to prevent fraud.
Miners are compensated for their efforts, but the Ethereum mining difficulty
determines how much computing power is required to mine a new block. The more
miners on the Ethereum blockchain there are, the more difficult it is to
discover the block that will be rewarded.
The decentralized finance (DeFi) boom in 2020 helped Ethereum gain traction. Decentralized applications are
increasingly being developed to automate financial services such as lending and
borrowing without the use of a third-party intermediary.
Following the Alonzo hard fork,
Cardano has added smart contracts to its platform. This could imply that the
blockchain could gain a stronger foothold in the DeFi industry, competing with
Ethereum.
As a competitor to Ethereum, the
Ethereum killer network would be able to run a variety of cryptocurrency
applications on top of smart contracts, including non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Cardano now supports
programmability thanks to the Alonzo hardfork, though the price has fallen due
to some issues but fortunately, the Cardano team has taken prompt steps to
address the issue and now there is a huge probability that Cardano native coin
ADA will definitely touch on major milestones in the coming days.
